Message from the Principals

Dear Bonneville Family and Friends,

December brings us closer to the closing stages of the first half of the 2008-2009 school year.  We have much to celebrate as our students continue to raise their levels of achievement in literacy development and explore new learning in math and science through technology programs. The support and helping hands of others help us to maintain momentum as we prepare our children for their future success.  As a school community, many people have made contributions to student success. This month we want to celebrate the dedication of so many people who make a difference in the safety, academic achievement, health and well being and emotional support of our students.

This year our ADDition volunteers include parents, UCF students, and community partners. These individuals invest endless hours planning for school events, tutoring students, assisting with teacher and student recognition programs, accompany students on field trips, assisting in the Media Center and providing aid to teachers in the preparation of materials for class activities. Bonneville is recognized for having a significant amount of volunteer hours and has earned the Golden School Award for the past several years.
We continue to value every minute of volunteer service.

We appreciate our cafeteria and extended day staff as they arrive early each morning to ensure your child is supervised and served a nutritious breakfast before beginning their learning each day. It is their contribution to your child’s health and well being as we continue to care for and educate the whole child.

We also recognize our PTA and SAC members for their monthly commitment, time and interest in serving on decision-making and advisory councils, and putting on the fund raiser events to generate funding for the needed resources throughout the year.

Because of the support of outside organizations, UCF service learning projects, On the Job Timber Creek HS students, parents, community and business partners, we have been able to our honor our teachers with catered lunches for Team of the Month , mentor and tutor students, assist VPK students, listen to students read, offer language translation services, conduct our Teach In event, and celebrate holidays.

Additionally, we celebrate parental assistance from home. Assisting your child with homework, projects and daily reading make a big difference in their performance and efforts during the school day. Volunteers from home also make telephone calls to other parents, provide child care for others, design or make costumes, serve as peer mentors for new families and cut out and assist teachers in making crafts and fundraising items.

Our DARE officer, Deb Durden, supports student safety by assisting crossing guards and students during arrival and dismissal. She also spends time with students in the cafeteria, and in the classroom to ensure they feel comfortable talking to her in the event they need assistance.

Parents, this is our time to continue to come together to do everything we can to open the doors of opportunity for our kids and ensure the they are surrounded by supportive adults who will do whatever it takes to promote responsibility, hard work and appreciation for others in order to maintain the  Bonneville tradition of excellence!

Sincerely,

Dr. Kimberly V. Bias
